"A kōan is a story, dialogue, question, or statement, which is used in Zen practice to provoke the "great doubt" and test a student's progress in Zen practice."
My first project as a leader, The Koan-tet is a vehicle for playing/improvising some of my compostions and arrangements. The original formation of this group is: Piano, Bass, Drums, Baritone Saxophone and Alto Saxophone. However, the latter two can be exchanged with Guitar, Tenor/Soprano Saxophone and Flute.
The general direction of The Koan-tet is to create an engaging and interesting role for each of the performers and to exhibit a strong sense of "one-ness" and freedom between them at the same time.
